One at One
What do the ages of 3 weeks old and 89 years old have in common on May 3, 2025? They both walked the labyrinth at Cross of Grace Church in New Palestine, Indiana, on World Labyrinth Day to join with thousands walking all over the world as one at one in the afternoon for peace creating a rolling wave of peace across the globe. It was an honor to be the labyrinth facilitator for this event where I, and I believe all in attendance, were truly touched by the love, joy and peace that enveloped us all at that time, and the community created in that moment.
The 3-week-old baby was swaddled to her mom’s body and brought hope and life to the labyrinth. The 89-year-old woman brought insight and wisdom to the walking circle as she shared her weekly use of the labyrinth before she entered this one. Thank you, Rosemary, and Mary, for being an important part of the day along with the roughly 33 other walkers and pray-ers.
We benefit from, and need, all ages in our lives. We learn so much from all those who surround us. Proverbs 20:29 states: “The glory of the young is their strength; the gray hair of experience is the splendor of the old.” Gray hair is a sign of wisdom, experience, and the life lessons gained with time. The proverb celebrates both youth and age, showing that each has its own value and place.
There are so many truths to learn in, and around, the labyrinth. It is so important that we grasp this age-less lesson and draw near to people, both the very young and those who are older, taking time to hear their loving sounds and loving stories. The pictures below share some of the wonderful experiences at this labyrinth at those moments in time.
