SMART LABELS

Now, I have discovered something that may be one of the greatest inventions of modern times: Smart Labels!  These things are a gamechanger for me.  I love being organized. I really do. But I have a confession: I hate labeling boxes. I’ll get out my trusty black Sharpie and write something like “Christmas decorations.” Very helpful, right?  Except six months later I’m looking for something and discover that, apparently, I forgot to label the box it’s actually in. So, there I am—opening box after box; and finally, three boxes later, I find what I was looking for.

But Smart Labels have changed all that. I put everything I’m going to store on the table. I put a Smart Label on the box, scan the QR code with my phone, take a picture, and voila! The app remembers everything that’s in that box.  And I mean everything! It even takes individual pictures of the items and names them. And somehow, it gets it right—even something as specific as “church pamphlet on Martin Luther.” Now, that’s impressive!

So someday, when I’m standing in front of a dozen boxes wondering, “Which one has that thing I’m looking for?” I don’t have to open every box. I just check my phone. Thank you, Smart Labels! You have saved me from a lot of digging, and a lot of frustration.

This is probably fueled by AI which seems quite controversial right now.  One grandchild even wrote a paper opposing it.  Is everything controversial at the beginning?  The television?  The cell phone?  The internet?  All things can be used for good or bad.

Makes me think of 1 Corinthians 10: 23 – ““Everything is permissible, but not everything is beneficial.”  (I’m sure Paul did not intend this passage as I’m using it smile) Using Smart Labels is permissible but not always beneficial.  It is not beneficial to my mind.  Just like the GPS on my car.  It is permissible but not beneficial to my brain either.  I don’t have to think with these two items, just follow along; however, using my brain may be more beneficial for my body in the long run.  Interesting to think about.
