Creating A Wave
My favorite, and only, hairstylist for the past 20 years or so is Ryan, my dear friend. When I saw him a week ago, he took off quite a bit of length and put curls and waves in my hair. They lasted two days! My hair is naturally the straightest hair can be. When I sleep on those pink spongey rollers, I’m fortunate if the curls and waves last two hours. The second day after Ryan styled my hair, I especially liked the waves that remained. He is phenomenal.
In yesterday’s Gospel reading, God said from heaven at Jesus’ baptism: “This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased.” At the end of my sermon, I asked the congregation to sit still for one minute of silence and bask in the word “beloved” hearing God say to them: “You are my beloved.” It was a holy minute contemplating a holy word. I prayed that they took it to heart and knew that they were created to be-loved by God, me and each other.
Give it a try. Set your phone to go off in one minute. Start it and then simply sit there and bask in God calling you beloved. Next time possibly increase it by a minute; and every time you do it, increase the time. Believe you are beloved. Know it. Own it. Claim it. Share it with others and start a wave of belovedness.
With the move more or less over, I am surrounded by boxes looming around me. Possibly I should be using every minute to unpack them; however, sitting in belovedness is far more important. Doing so brightly colors my world and makes the unboxing easier when I get to it.
Here’s a picture of my room where I will create cards and scrapbook pages someday soon again but creating this wave is so much more important. :-)
