413
A week ago I moved into a new apartment complex. As I was taking a myriad of empty cardboard boxes down to recycling again, a woman asked me where I lived. I told her I just moved in 413. She said she is in 311. In a way, we are neighbors. One of the first people I’ve met in this building. What do you say when someone asks you where you live?
Jesus, in the lesson for tomorrow in John 1: 39 replies, “Come and see”, when he is asked where he is staying. He’s much braver than I am. For one thing this apartment is a total disaster with boxes and furniture everywhere and nowhere that it belongs. I’m not keen on too many people seeing it until it is in order. Second, I do not know the people in this building. Would it be safe to have them come and see where I live? Maybe I watch too much NCIS.
It is interesting that Jesus asked them, “What are you looking for?” Even more interesting was their response, “Where are you staying?” Odd question to ask after his question. Jesus answers, as I said, “Come and see.” When we ask a question of Jesus, many times the answer might be, “Come and see.”
How do I heal from my brother not wanting to talk to me? Jesus would answer, “Come and see.” What can I do to help my friend who is recovering from major surgery? Jesus would answer, “Come and see”. What can I do to help my family, especially those from Somalia, in MN during these times? Jesus would answer, “Come and see.”
Come and see Jesus. Come and see Jesus in your Bible, in worship, with friends where God’s light shines through. The answers are found in Jesus although they might be hard to discern. The more we look to Jesus, the more we find. I definitely don’t have the answers, but keep on praying, reading, and searching.
