Enjoying Time Together
“Be safe and enjoy time with your family.” This is what a friend posted on Facebook this morning. I replied, “I do wish I could.” Started feeling sad that none of them can come over for Sunday dinner. Instead of having my own pity party, I decided to organize and refix photos into my scrapbooks. My sister Sharon started me scrapbooking when I was 12 with a Christmas gift of a scrapbook, and the promise that we would spend time creating them together. We did that; and it was wonderful, cutting apart greeting cards to decorate the pages, typing sentiments on her typewriter, and going through photos together to add to the pages. In the intervening 54 years, I have chronologically kept scrapbooks every year enjoying the memories. Over those years, pictures have been removed from albums for various purposes and never put back. I decided a few months ago that I needed to get them all put back together. I also decided a few months ago that I wanted to be able to display them and not hide them away in a closet. Today was the day, and it allowed me to spend the entire day with all of my family as I flipped through pages, added pictures back and remembered with smiles and tears some pretty amazing events over the decades. My life has been very blessed by family and friends, by many trips, and by times spent with loved onw. It was as if they were here with me. That is the joy of scrapbooking - the remembering, the loving, the laughing and crying. I’m thankful for all those moments. I’m thankful they all love me without reservation as I do them. I shall continue on this walk down memory lane until all the scrapbooks are organized and on the bookshelf to access easily and share with others who might like to see my life. If that’s you, just let me know. I’d love to share them with you if that is possible.
